Career transitions after 45 are becoming increasingly common—but how can we better support this journey?
At Smart Education Hub, as coordinator of the Erasmus+ project CrossRoads – Empowering Adults 45+ in Shifting Career Paths, we are working closely with our partners to understand and respond to the real needs of adults navigating career change.
What we’re seeing so far:
– Career transitions are often driven by job loss, changing industries, or personal life shifts
– Digital literacy, AI skills, and adaptability are critical for staying competitive
– Emotional factors like confidence, stress, and identity play a major role in decision-making
– Many adults face barriers such as time, cost, and family responsibilities when accessing training
– There is a clear need for both career guidance and psychological support
At Smart Education Hub, we believe that successful career transitions require more than just skills.
Through CrossRoads, we are developing:
– Practical training and coaching pathways
– A comprehensive Skills Guide for adults 45+
– Tools that combine upskilling with emotional and psychological support
– Workshops tailored to real labour market needs
Our goal is to empower adults 45+ to rebuild confidence, strengthen their skills, and navigate new professional pathways with clarity and resilience.
